He Yaqiong, Director of the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated at a news conference on electric bicycle related standards policies held on July 24 that the revised mandatory national standard "Safety Technical Specification for Electric Bicycles" will have five positive effects on the healthy development of the electric bicycle industry. First, it will reduce the risk and harm of fire accidents. Second, it will reduce the risk of traffic accidents. Third, it will effectively prevent illegal modifications. Fourth, it will improve the overall safety performance of vehicles. Fifth, it will better meet the daily needs of consumers. By relaxing the weight limit for lead-acid battery models, consumers will be provided with products that offer higher cost performance, longer battery life, and better user experience; the mandatory installation of pedal assist devices will no longer be required, enhancing the practicality of products, saving production costs, and providing consumers with more choices of models.
