The US government launches a new round of compliance investigations on Harvard University's visa programs.
On July 23 local time, CCTV journalists learned that the U.S. government has launched a new investigation into whether Harvard University is complying with an internationally operated visa program for international students and professors. U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo wrote to the President of Harvard University on the same day, notifying him of the start of the investigation. In the letter, Pompeo did not mention any specific allegations of misconduct, but stated that the investigation aims to "assist the State Department in achieving its policy goals." This investigation focuses on the "exchange visitor program" in which Harvard University participates. The program issues visas to various applicants such as students, professors, researchers, interns, and exchange students to promote cultural and educational exchange.
