U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo wrote to the President of Harvard University on the same day, notifying him of the start of the investigation. In the letter, Pompeo did not mention any specific allegations of misconduct, but stated that the investigation aims to "assist the State Department in achieving its policy goals."
