Health and public security joint investigation into the death of a 4-year-old boy after tooth extraction: Doctor involved suspended.

The Health Bureau of Guiyang County, Hunan Province, issued a situation report on the "medical death case at Guiyang County First People's Hospital": After preliminary investigation, Ms. Xu was admitted to the Department of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery in Guiyang County First People's Hospital at 8:15 am on July 20 due to a deeply buried tooth in the maxillary anterior region. After a comprehensive diagnosis by the hospital, it was found that the position of the buried tooth was deep and the child's age was young with low cooperation, making the surgery difficult. With the consent of the family, partial removal of the maxilla and extraction of the buried tooth in the maxilla were performed under general anesthesia at 12:40 pm on July 21. During the anesthesia process, the child experienced an emergency situation. The hospital's expert team promptly made every effort to rescue and urgently contacted ICU experts from the city to participate in the rescue. Unfortunately, despite multiple efforts to save the child, the child passed away at 18:22. After the incident, the county party committee and government attached great importance to it, quickly set up a joint investigation team composed of health, public security and other relevant departments, and invited authoritative experts at the city level to participate, conducting the investigation and handling work in a comprehensive and in-depth manner according to law and regulations. Currently, the hospital party committee has suspended the relevant medical staff and initiated an investigation.
