Chinese representatives appeal to the international community to revitalize multilateralism in order to maintain international peace and security.
Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong spoke at the high-level open debate on "Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and the Settlement of Disputes" in the Security Council on the 22nd, calling on the international community to revive multilateralism and maintain international peace and security. Fu Cong said that 80 years ago, the world achieved a great victory in the anti-fascist war, the Charter of the United Nations established the basic principles of international relations, and demonstrated the common ideal of humanity to eliminate war and maintain world peace. Today, 80 years later, the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, and the cause of peace and development still faces many challenges. The international community should take the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations as an opportunity to revisit its original aspirations, revitalize multilateralism, and make unremitting efforts to uphold international peace and security. Fu Cong stated that disputes should be resolved peacefully. Countries should respect each other's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, prioritize each other's legitimate security concerns, resolve differences through mutual understanding and compromise, and build consensus through dialogue and negotiation. The international community, especially major powers, should pave the way for dialogue and cooperation, rather than fueling conflicts and promoting confrontation.
