Federal Reserve Board Governor Bowman said on Tuesday that the Fed's ability to formulate monetary policy without political interference is "very important." Bowman stated, "It is crucial that we maintain independence in monetary policy, but as part of that independence, we also have an obligation to be transparent and accountable. In my view, we have an obligation to listen to a variety of voices, understand how others perceive the economy, and how this will affect our decisions in monetary policy-making."
