The Baltic Dry Index recorded its largest weekly increase in four months.
On Friday, the Baltic Dry Index continued to rise and reached its largest weekly gain in over four months, driven by the continuous increase in Cape-size vessel freight rates. The Baltic Dry Index rose by 22 points, or 1.1%, to 2052 points, the highest since September 30 last year. The Cape-size vessel freight index rose by 63 points, or 2.1%, to 3084 points, hitting a one-month high. The cumulative increase for the week exceeded 43%. The daily profit of Cape-size vessels increased by $520 to $25,575. The Panamax vessel freight index fell by 14 points, or 0.7%, to 1919 points, with a weekly gain of over 3%. The daily profit of Panamax vessels decreased by $127 to $17,272. The Supramax vessel freight index rose by 11 points, or 0.8%, to 1346 points.
