On July 18th local time, Dominic Hyder, the Head of External Relations at the United Nations Refugee Agency, stated that due to significant cuts in humanitarian budgets, as many as 11.6 million refugees and other forcibly displaced persons may not be able to receive direct humanitarian assistance from the UN Refugee Agency this year. This number accounts for approximately one-third of the number of people assisted by the organization last year. Dominic Hyder also pointed out that the UN Refugee Agency's funding needs for 2025 amount to $10.6 billion. As of mid-year, only 23% of the funds have been received. Therefore, the UN Refugee Agency is calling on governments, relevant agencies, and individuals to significantly increase financial donations in order to fill the current funding gap.
