The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology focuses on green transformation of traditional industries using recycled resources such as scrap steel.
The deep green transformation of traditional industries has become the primary task of industrial green and low-carbon development. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will focus on four key industries: steel, non-ferrous metals, petrochemicals, and building materials, and will strive to unleash the potential of green and low-carbon development in traditional industries in terms of raw materials, energy use, processes, and products. Tao Qing, director of the Operations Monitoring and Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that the key focus is to increase the use of green raw materials, aiming to increase the proportion of scrap steel, copper, and aluminum in raw materials to 22%, 30%, and 25% respectively by 2027. The use of recycled resources as raw materials has significant energy-saving and carbon-reducing advantages compared to virgin mineral resources. In expanding the use of green energy, efforts will be made to accelerate the application of hydrogen energy in traditional industries; in expanding the use of green processes, the focus will be on advancing innovative processes in traditional industries; and in expanding the supply of green products, the focus will be on providing new materials and products with significant green and low-carbon effects for various sectors of the economy and society. Currently, the proportion of green factory output to total manufacturing output at the national level exceeds 20%, and energy consumption per unit of value added in industrial enterprises above a certain scale continues to decrease.
