Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to remarks by "Taiwanese independence" advocate Xiao Meiqin: The fact that both sides belong to one China will not change.
On July 18, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a regular press conference. In response to separatist Xiao Meiqin's statement that "the daunting military power and posture of the Chinese mainland is worrisome, maintaining the status quo between Taiwan and the mainland is in the interest of the overall region," Lin Jian responded that Taiwan is a part of China's territory, and the Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair. How to resolve the Taiwan issue is a matter for the Chinese people. "The greatest threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait is the separatist forces of 'Taiwan independence' and the external forces that condone and support them." Lin Jian said that no matter what the Democratic Progressive Party authorities say or do, they cannot change the fact that both sides of the strait belong to one China, the trend of the international community adhering to the One China principle, or the historical trend that China will eventually unite.
