United Nations Secretary-General: Progress has been made in mutual trust between the two sides in the Cyprus issue.
On July 17th local time, United Nations Secretary-General Guterres stated at the United Nations headquarters in New York that he had chaired a meeting that day aimed at promoting dialogue on the Cyprus issue, with Greek Cypriot leader Christodoulos and Turkish Cypriot leader Tatar in attendance. Guterres thanked the two leaders as well as representatives from the guarantor countries of Greece, Turkey, and the UK for their active participation. Guterres stated that since he took office as Secretary-General, he has been committed to the safety and well-being of all the people of Cyprus, whether they are Greek Cypriots or Turkish Cypriots. He said that the meeting that day was constructive, with both sides reviewing the six confidence-building measures reached in March, with four of them already yielding results, including the establishment of a Youth Affairs Technical Committee, cooperation on environment and climate change, restoration of cemeteries, and demining cooperation.
