British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rives announced the establishment of an infrastructure partnership with the South African government, aiming to attract more investment to this largest economy in Africa. This cooperation agreement was signed during the G20 meeting in the port city of Durban, South Africa, with the core objective of accelerating the progress of major infrastructure projects in South Africa - which currently has a large backlog of projects that are hindering economic growth. Rives stated that under the cooperation agreement, the UK will provide technical support to South Africa to help them develop a list of investable projects. She mentioned that a similar cooperation project between the UK and Peru could serve as a model for this partnership.
