Iraqi supermarket fire has led to 61 deaths. The Iraqi Prime Minister has ordered a thorough investigation.
On the morning of the 17th local time, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior issued a statement stating that a serious fire in the capital of Wasit Province, Kut City, had resulted in 61 deaths. The statement said that the fire occurred on the night of the 16th in a supermarket located in a five-story commercial building. The building had only been open for seven days. As of now, the fire has resulted in 61 deaths, with most of the victims suffocating in the restroom due to thick smoke, and 14 severely burnt bodies have yet to be identified. Currently, the Civil Defense Department has rescued 45 trapped individuals. The Iraqi Minister of Interior has ordered the establishment of a high-level investigation committee to determine the cause of the fire, clarify the responsibilities of the accident, and identify any mistakes.
