Another religious political party in Israel quits the government.
According to CCTV International News, on July 16, the Israeli ultra-Orthodox party "Shas Party" held an internal meeting and decided to withdraw from Prime Minister Netanyahu's government. It is expected that members of the party currently serving as ministers in the government will submit their resignations one after another. However, according to sources cited by Israeli Channel 12 and other media, the "Shas Party" will not push for a vote of no confidence in the government and will continue to remain in relevant committees in the Israeli parliament, such as health and education. The reports indicate that this means members of the "Shas Party" will resign from government positions to pressure the current ruling coalition to promote a law to exempt ultra-Orthodox Jews from military service, but at the same time the party will continue to support the ruling coalition's majority position in parliament. Recently, the Israeli political scene has been marked by intense conflicts surrounding the law on "completely exempting ultra-Orthodox Jews from military service."
