Another "first"! China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) has reported good news again.
In recent days, the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with domestic and international research institutions, using the 500-meter aperture spherical radio telescope, observed for the first time a complex filamentous structural network dominated by supersonic turbulence in an interstellar gas cloud moving at ultra-high speed within the Milky Way. This achievement provides a new perspective on the early evolution mechanisms of interstellar media in structure formation. The related findings were published online in the international academic journal "Nature Astronomy" on July 16, 2025.
