State Council Taiwan Affairs Office: Warning to the Lai Ching-te authorities that seeking independence with the support of the US is destined to fail.
The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office held a routine press conference. A reporter asked: According to Taiwan media reports, Lai Ching-teh will "visit" Paraguay, Guatemala, and Belize in August, and intends to "transit" through New York and Dallas in the United States during this period. What is your comment on this? Spokesperson Chen Binhua said, "We firmly oppose any form of official exchanges between the United States and the Taiwan region of China, and we firmly oppose Lai Ching-teh transiting through the United States in any form or under any pretext. The U.S. side should adhere to the One China Principle and the provisions of the Three Joint Communiqus between China and the U.S., handle the Taiwan issue with caution, and not send any wrong signals to the separatist forces of 'Taiwan independence.' We warn the Lai Ching-teh authorities that their attempts to seek independence with the support of the U.S. are in vain and doomed to fail." Chen Binhua emphasized that the One China Principle is a common consensus of the international community and a basic norm of international relations, upheld and adhered to by the vast majority of countries in the world. It is a righteous cause, the aspiration of the people, and the trend of the times. We hope that relevant countries in Latin America and the Caribbean will recognize the trend, handle Taiwan-related issues cautiously, and join the big family of friendly cooperation between China and Latin America at an early date.
