According to reports, a recent teardown report by the globally renowned financial institution UBS shows that the material cost (BoM) of Apple's first foldable screen iPhone, the iPhone Fold, is estimated to be $759, which is about 4% lower than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold SE at $790. Despite using higher-cost materials for the casing and hinge, Apple was able to achieve cost reduction by optimizing core components such as memory, processor, and camera modules. The report shows that the iPhone Fold's aerospace-grade titanium alloy frame and liquid metal hinge have a single unit cost 15-20% higher than Samsung's aluminum alloy and steel hinge, but Apple has managed to reduce assembly costs by 8% through integrated precision processing technology.
