Malaysia Airlines Group: Actively exploring increasing the frequency of flights to China, opening new routes connecting emerging secondary cities.
China and Malaysia have signed a visa exemption agreement which will take effect on July 17th. On July 15th, the Managing Director of Malaysia Airlines Group, Datuk Izham Ismail, stated that as the national carrier of Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines will actively seize the opportunities brought by the visa exemption agreement and is fully prepared to meet the expected increase in market demand. Currently, Malaysia Airlines operates 52 flights per week between Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and major cities in Greater China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, and Taipei. In the first half of 2025, these routes have an average passenger load factor of 80%, demonstrating the vitality of the Chinese market and the continuous preference of Chinese travelers for Malaysia as a destination. Izham Ismail also mentioned that in order to capitalize on this momentum, Malaysia Airlines is actively exploring increased flight frequencies and opening new routes, especially to connect with emerging second-tier cities, in order to further support the vigorous development of bilateral tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
