Leader of the ruling party visits Azerbaijan to promote energy cooperation.
On the 12th, the Syrian regime leader Ahmed Shala, who visited Azerbaijan for the first time, held talks with Azerbaijani President Aliyev in the capital Baku. Both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries. According to the Azerbaijani news agency, the two sides agreed during the talks to implement a project to export Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria through Turkey in the near future to alleviate Syria's energy shortages. On the same day, the Azerbaijani state oil company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian side to promote energy cooperation. Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan is willing to support Syria's energy security and reconstruction efforts. Shala said that Syria especially hopes to expand cooperation in the energy and post-war reconstruction sector.
