Japan has relaxed its demand for the United States to abolish car tariffs and proposed a plan to reduce tariffs proportionally.

According to the Asahi Shimbun on Friday, Japan is no longer demanding the complete elimination of the 25% car tariffs from the United States, but instead has proposed a mechanism to reduce tariffs based on each country's contribution to the American car industry. Japan's chief tariff negotiator, Akira Aizawa, is currently in Washington negotiating the fifth round of talks with U.S. officials including Treasury Secretary Besent and Commerce Secretary Lutnick.
