Apple announced on June 5th that a new study, led by Professor Andrey Fradkin from the Questrom School of Business at Boston University and Dr. Jessica Burley, an economist at Anoisys International Consultancy, shows that the global App Store is expected to generate $1.3 trillion in developer revenue and sales by 2024. Over 90% of the revenue and sales generated in the App Store ecosystem belong entirely to developers, without any commissions paid to Apple. The study found that over the past five years, revenue and sales generated by the App Store ecosystem have more than doubled in the United States, China, and Europe. During this period, revenue from digital goods and services, physical goods and services, and in-app advertising have all increased. In China, since 2019, the e-commerce market has significantly expanded, with online daily necessities consumption growing by more than five times.
