Apple announced on June 5th that a new study led by Professor Andrey Fradkin of the Questrom School of Business at Boston University and Dr. Jessica Burley, an economist at Analysys Mason, shows that the global App Store will generate a total of $1.3 trillion in developer revenue and sales by 2024. Over 90% of the revenue and sales generated in the App Store ecosystem belongs entirely to the developers, without any commission to be paid to Apple. The study found that in the past five years, the revenue and sales generated in the App Store ecosystem have more than doubled in the United States, China, and Europe. During this period, all regions saw growth in digital goods and services, physical goods and services, and in-app advertising revenue. In China, the e-commerce market has expanded significantly since 2019, with online daily necessities consumption increasing by over five times.
