Ministry of Commerce responds to US tariff increase on steel and aluminum: urges US to stop generalizing and abusing the concept of national security
According to the Wise Finance APP, on June 5th, the Ministry of Commerce held a routine press conference. Regarding the United States increasing the tariff on imported steel, aluminum and their derivative products from 25% to 50%, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Gao Feng, stated that China has repeatedly emphasized that the 232 tariffs are a typical act of unilateralism and protectionism, which has already been ruled to violate WTO rules by the WTO dispute settlement mechanism. The US raising tariffs on steel, aluminum, and their derivative products once again not only harms others but also harms oneself, does not help maintain industrial security, and will seriously disrupt the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain. The US actions have been opposed by many countries.
