Turkey and Syria will start operating more direct flights starting in mid-month.

With the United States and the European Union easing economic sanctions on Syria, Turkey and Syria are scheduled to begin operating more direct flights in mid-June. On June 4th, Turkey's budget airline operator "AJet," which is under Turkish Airlines, announced that it will start operating flights from Istanbul and Ankara to Damascus, Syria starting in mid-June. Flights from Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen International Airport to Damascus International Airport will begin on June 16th with an initial plan to operate four flights per week, increasing to daily flights in July. Flights from Ankara's Esenboga International Airport to Damascus will start on June 17th with three flights per week. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, Syrian Airlines is also scheduled to start operating direct flights from Damascus to Istanbul starting on June 10th.
