The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Thursday that due to incorrect car tax data provided by the UK government, the consumer price inflation rate for the year ending in April was overestimated by 0.1 percentage points. The ONS stated that they will not be revising the statistical data, but are reviewing the quality assurance process for their external data in response to this issue. The ONS also mentioned that correct weighted data will be used starting in May, so future statistics will not be affected. The ONS has faced criticism for its unreliable labor market data, and the government launched an investigation in April into the accuracy of the official economic data released by the ONS.
