According to British media reports on the 4th, the U.S. Coast Guard is dealing with a fire on the 600-foot long car carrier "Morning Midas" in the Pacific Ocean. The ship was carrying hundreds of electric cars and was located about 300 miles off the coast of Alaska. The ship departed at the end of May and was originally expected to arrive at the port of Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico on June 15th. According to the shipping database Equasis, the "Morning Midas" was built in 2006 and is owned by the London-based company Hawthorn Navigation Inc, managed by Zodiac Maritime. The ship was specifically built for transporting cars and trucks, capable of carrying up to 6000 cars. Zodiac Maritime has confirmed that the ship was carrying about 3000 cars when the incident occurred, including 800 electric cars, and all 22 crew members were unharmed and safely evacuated from the ship.
