Thailand plans to purchase Swedish Gripen fighter jets as a replacement for American-made F-16s.
The Thai Air Force said on the 4th that they plan to purchase 12 JAS-39 "Gripen" fighter jets manufactured by Sweden's Saab Group in the next 10 years to replace the aging American-made F-16 fighter jets currently in service. The Thai Air Force plans to spend 19.5 billion baht to purchase 4 "Gripen" fighter jets from 2025 to 2029 to complete the first phase of procurement tasks, and then purchase an additional 8 jets. The related procurement plan will be submitted for cabinet approval in mid-July, and if approved, it is expected to sign a procurement agreement in August.
