Insiders say that major music companies such as Universal Music Group are in talks with two startups to negotiate AI music licensing agreements. The discussions may pave the way for groundbreaking agreements on AI-generated remixes and artist compensation methods. Insiders reveal that Universal, Warner Music, and Sony Music hope to receive compensation from startups Suno and Udio when their signed artists' music is used to train generative AI models and create new music. To determine the amount of compensation that artists and record companies should receive, music companies hope that the aforementioned startups can develop a fingerprint recognition and attribution technology to track when and how songs are used. In addition, music companies hope to actively participate in music-related products released by AI companies, including having a say in which products are developed and how they operate.
