At the previous Bank of Japan policy meeting, committee member Takeharu Sakurai stated that due to concerns over the surge in Japanese government bond yields, the central bank may decide to halt the reduction of bond purchases in next fiscal year's plan. He noted that since last summer, the Bank of Japan has been decreasing its bond purchases by 400 billion yen each quarter, but this process will come to a stop. "They are likely to stop," Sakurai said. "They certainly consider that a significant reduction in bond purchases would further increase yields."
