The American steel and aluminum tariffs storm affecting the dining table, canned tuna and other food prices may rise.
According to CCTV news, starting from early June, the tariffs on imported steel and aluminum in the United States will be raised from the current 25% to 50%. American media reports that the increase in steel and aluminum tariffs will not only affect the prices of large items such as homes, cars, and washing machines, but also push up food prices in the United States, affecting ordinary consumers. The report stated that canned tuna, chicken soup, fruits, tomato sauce, as well as beverages such as beer and soda, which involve metal packaging, will be affected by the tariffs. Budwey, chairman of the American Canned Food Manufacturers Association, believes that raising steel and aluminum tariffs will further increase the cost of canned food. Some well-known multinational food companies in the United States have stated that since they cannot obtain all raw materials domestically, imposing tariffs may force them to raise product prices.
