Wildfires in northern Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have gotten out of control, with the Cold Lake area wildfires directly threatening oil sands operations, forcing several projects to shut down and evacuate. Canada's largest oil and gas producer, Canadian Natural Resources Limited, announced on Saturday that they have evacuated workers from the Jackfish 1 oil sands project and halted production of 36,500 barrels of bitumen per day. The Calgary-based company stated in a release, "All workers are safe, with no reports of injuries." Similarly, MEG Energy Corp. later on Saturday said they have "proactively" evacuated all non-essential personnel from the Christina Lake project, as wildfires caused a disruption in a third-party power line, disconnecting from the grid. The company stated that the project is still producing oil, but due to the power outage, an additional 70,000 barrels per day will be delayed in starting.
