China-Sri Lanka Trade and Investment Conference held in Colombo.

On May 30th, the China-Sri Lanka Trade and Investment Conference was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Sri Lanka Fernando attended and delivered speeches. More than 200 representatives from Chinese and Sri Lankan enterprises and business associations attended the event. Wang Wentao stated that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China and Sri Lanka have achieved fruitful results in building the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, with bilateral trade continuing to grow, investment expanding, and cultural exchanges becoming increasingly close. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce is willing to work together with Sri Lanka to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, expand economic and trade cooperation, fully utilize mechanisms such as the China-Sri Lanka Joint Committee on Economic and Trade Cooperation, explore cooperation potential, enrich cooperation content, and promote mutual development and prosperity. They will deepen the integration of production and supply chains, support Sri Lanka in enhancing its industrial supporting capabilities, and empower areas such as green, low-carbon, and digital economy. Both sides will jointly support free trade and the multilateral trading system, uphold international fairness and justice, and inject more stability and certainty into the global and regional economy. Fernando stated that the successful holding of this matchmaking meeting demonstrates the broad prospects for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, with strong willingness from both sides to seek cooperation. Sri Lanka highly values economic and trade cooperation with China and hopes to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, and production and supply chains to enhance the quality of the bilateral economic and trade relationship. Chinese and Sri Lankan enterprises have conducted trade and investment negotiations in sectors such as green economy, agricultural food products, textiles and garments, and machinery manufacturing, achieving positive results.
