On May 29th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held a symposium with representatives of the National Aquatic Germplasm and Superior Variety Approval Committee to discuss and plan the revitalization of the aquaculture industry during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Zhang Zhili attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting emphasized the need to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on the development of the seed industry, as well as the deployment requirements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council. It is essential to deeply understand the requirements for revitalizing the seed industry, era development, and scientific planning for the "14th Five-Year Plan", to refine and improve the aquaculture industry, achieve independent and controllable seed sources, and better support the people's demand for high-quality aquatic products. The meeting recognized the significant progress made in the aquaculture industry since the implementation of the revitalization action. However, there is still considerable room for improvement in breeding technology, breeding achievements, breeding subjects, and breeding mechanisms to meet the high-quality development needs of the aquaculture industry during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. The meeting proposed to focus on the needs of industrial development during the "14th Five-Year Plan", adhere to problem-oriented approaches, strengthen technological innovation, improve work mechanisms, strengthen breeding subjects, and promote the development of aquaculture industry through a path of scale, specialization, and commercialization. It is necessary to strengthen the top-level design of the aquaculture industry and enhance coordinated planning. By focusing on market demand and performance enhancement, breeders should be encouraged to pay more attention to improving performance, better adapting to industry needs, and meeting market demands. It is crucial to actively and steadily promote the reform of the variety approval system, improve support policies, cultivate a group of high-quality breeding subjects, strengthen seed industry management, and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the aquaculture industry.
