Wang Yi meets with Chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council, Sulejman Djimitri.
On the afternoon of May 29, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Asia Peace and Reconciliation Council and former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand in Hong Kong. Wang Yi stated that China's proposal to establish an International Mediation Institute provides a new choice for the international community to resolve disputes and achieve reconciliation on a voluntary basis, and is also a concrete action to uphold multilateralism and the spirit of the United Nations Charter. China is willing to work with Asian countries through regional mechanisms such as China-ASEAN, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, and Asia Cooperation Dialogue to jointly safeguard the hard-won peace and stability in Asia. Surakiart expressed his honor to be invited to witness the birth of the International Mediation Institute in Hong Kong. In the current international situation, China's proposal is timely and has received positive responses and broad support from all parties. Multilateralism is the direction forward for human society. The Asia Peace and Reconciliation Council shares similar ideals and goals with the International Mediation Institute. He looks forward to enhancing cooperation with China, forming a joint force, and making greater contributions to the peace and development of Asia.
