Eastern Libyan government: may declare oil fields and ports encountered force majeure.
The eastern government of Libya stated on Wednesday that it may declare oil fields and ports to be under force majeure, citing repeated attacks on the National Oil Corporation of Libya. Most of Libya's oil fields are under the control of military leader Khalifa Haftar in eastern Libya. The eastern government of Libya also mentioned the possibility of temporarily relocating the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation to one of the "safe cities" such as Ras Lanuf and Brega, both of which are under its control. The National Oil Corporation of Libya previously issued a statement denying that its headquarters had been attacked, calling it "completely untrue", and emphasizing that the company is operating normally, continuing to fulfill its important responsibilities without interruption. Libya's oil production decreased by more than half in August last year, with exports from several ports being interrupted. The production stoppage lasted for over a month and gradually resumed in early October. According to the NOC, Libya's crude oil production reached 1.3 million barrels in the past 24 hours.
