The Supreme Court of the United States has rejected a major obstacle to the construction of North America's largest copper mine by Rio Tinto company - an appeal filed by a Native American group who claims the project in Arizona will destroy sacred land. The appeal aimed to prevent the transfer of 2422 acres of federal land crucial for the Resolution Copper Mine. This land includes Oak Flat, which the Western Apache people have been holding religious ceremonies at for centuries, including a four-day celebration of the coming-of-age of young women.
