TSMC made a strong statement: If the United States imposes tariffs on chips, it will affect its investment in the United States.
According to the Taiwan "China Times" reported on May 24th, TSMC's subsidiary in Arizona, USA recently submitted a letter of opinions to the US Department of Commerce, mainly including three main parts. First, the letter talked about TSMC's history and current production situation in the US, emphasizing that it provides many job opportunities in the US, and that its production capacity in the US will significantly expand over the next 10 years. Secondly, TSMC will invest $165 billion in the US to build 6 advanced wafer fabs, 2 advanced packaging fabs, and 1 research and development center, which is the largest single foreign direct investment in US history, and will help the US achieve semiconductor localization. Finally, the letter mentioned that any measures taken by the US, including tariffs, import controls, etc., should not undermine the national security goals of the US government, including TSMC's investment plan in Arizona, otherwise it will have a chain effect and ultimately impact investment plans in the US.
