Regarding new derivatives of illegal food additives, the State Administration for Market Regulation releases two supplementary testing methods.
The reporter learned today that the State Administration for Market Regulation has issued two supplementary food testing methods targeting novel derivatives of phenolphthalein-type and bisacodyl-type substances illegally added to food. Phenolphthalein-type and bisacodyl-type substances have a stimulant laxative effect, and long-term intake may cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, electrolyte imbalance, and liver and kidney damage. As law enforcement efforts continue to intensify, some lawbreakers, in order to evade regulation, synthesize novel derivatives of these two types of substances and add them to foods such as jelly, preserved fruits, candy, and beverages, falsely claiming efficacy. The testing methods introduced this time can effectively identify multiple novel derivatives of the two types of substances, providing technical support for regulatory enforcement and conviction and sentencing.
