The Three Gorges Water Transport New Corridor Project is the first major landmark project to break ground in China during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, comprising the Three Gorges Hub New Corridor and the Gezhouba Navigation Capacity Expansion. Today, the Gezhouba Navigation Capacity Expansion reaches a key milestone, with the official start of construction on the upstream and downstream cofferdams, marking the full entry of the Gezhouba Navigation Capacity Expansion into the main construction phase. The upstream and downstream cofferdams are the first barrier in the construction of the Gezhouba Navigation Capacity Expansionessentially "temporary water-retaining walls" built in the river. The upstream cofferdam has a total length of 835.94 meters, while the downstream cofferdam has a total length of 960.85 meters.
