Serbian President Vui announces resignation

On the evening of September 27 local time, Serbian President Vucic addressed the public and announced his resignation. On the 5th of this month, the main board of the Serbian Progressive Party decided to nominate Vucic as the lead candidate on the party's parliamentary election list and as its candidate for prime minister, and Vucic subsequently accepted the nomination. On the 9th, Vucic signed a presidential decree dissolving parliament and announced that early parliamentary elections would be held on October 25. Vucic was elected president in April 2017 and re-elected in May 2022. Under the Serbian constitution, the president serves a five-year term and may be re-elected once.
