The cost of raw material logistics has risen significantly, leading to a two-round price increase for two-thirds of pharmaceuticals in Iran.

The head of Iran's Food and Drug Administration stated on Sunday that about two-thirds of the country's medicines have undergone two rounds of price increases since March 21. Mehdi Pirsalehi noted that rising costs for raw materials, transportation, and production have contributed to the increase in drug prices. He mentioned that the shipping cost for some imported medicines was about $3,000 by sea, but has now risen to $30,000 when switched to air freight. He added that this price increase aims to prevent pharmaceutical companies from operating at a loss. Pirsalehi stated that Iran has allocated $4.5 billion in foreign exchange this year for the procurement of medicines and medical equipment, with $1.3 billion already disbursed at the subsidized exchange rate.
