Trump is once again seeking to fire Federal Reserve Board member Cook.

U.S. President Trump is once again pushing for the dismissal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. The White House sent a letter to Cook this week stating that Trump is "considering" removing her from office and has asked her to respond within three weeks to allegations of mortgage fraud. Cook's attorney has called the allegations "baseless." The letter, signed by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, states that Cook is suspected of criminal behavior that could carry a sentence of up to 30 years, claiming her actions constitute misconduct and affect her credibility as a Federal Reserve governor. Cook's attorney stated that there are no legal grounds for her removal and will continue to challenge this action. Trump attempted to dismiss Cook last year on the basis of allegations of mortgage fraud. In June of this year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Trump is not permitted to remove Cook at this time, asserting that Cook should receive the due process protections required by law before being dismissed.
