The Houthi armed group in Yemen issued a statement today claiming that they used multiple ballistic missiles to attack a Saudi oil tanker located in the Red Sea. The statement noted that since announcing a maritime shipping ban on Saudi Arabia on July 22, the Houthi forces have carried out a total of 8 attacks on Saudi oil tankers; an additional 29 Saudi oil tankers have been forced to change their routes or return to port. The statement also indicated that as the Houthis strengthen their maritime blockade of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, Saudi Arabia has begun to adjust the tanker routes to the northern Red Sea. The statement further claimed that the Houthis will continue to escalate attacks on Saudi tankers in the northern Red Sea in the future in order to "close all channels" and solidify what they call a "blockade against the blockade," regardless of the consequences or impacts.
