Global demand for electric vehicles increased in June.
Data released by consulting firm Benchmark Mineral Intelligence on Friday showed that global demand for electric vehicles continued to grow for the fourth consecutive month in June, driven primarily by strong growth in the European market, while sales in North America declined. The registration of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in June increased by 7% year-on-year, reaching 2 million units, with a 2% year-on-year increase in registrations in the first half of the year. Electric vehicle registrations in Europe increased by 31% to about 530,000 units, setting a new record high for June. BMI stated that Europe remains the main engine of growth for electric vehicles. As the US tax incentives for electric vehicles came to an end, registrations in North America declined by 13%.
