At the time when KPMG is under investigation, the Australian regulatory authority is reviewing complaints against the "Big Four" auditing firms.
The Australian corporate regulator said on Thursday that it has begun reviewing audit complaints received by the "Big Four" accounting firms - KPMG, Deloitte, EY, and PwC - in light of recent allegations of misconduct by KPMG auditors. The review stems from a formal investigation launched by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in June against three KPMG Australia partners, following allegations that the company abused confidential client data to win lucrative audit contracts. ASIC stated that the review will investigate internal complaints related to external audit services provided by each firm, including complaints from whistleblowers. ASIC also stated on Thursday that it will continue its "significant investigation into the specific allegations of KPMG's misuse of confidential client information." "ASIC will use its existing limited powers while actively participating in the government's reform process," added ASIC Chairman Sarah Court. The four audit firms have not immediately responded to requests for comment.
