According to the Securities Times APP, SK Hynix announced on Thursday that it plans to invest 80 trillion Korean won (approximately $51.46 billion) in building a new NAND flash memory wafer fab in Cheongju, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea to address the chip shortage caused by the artificial intelligence boom. The plant, named M17, is scheduled to start operations in 2029. SK Hynix also plans to invest another 20 trillion Korean won before the end of 2027 to build a chip packaging plant in Cheongju.
