According to Business Insider, sources familiar with the matter revealed that Microsoft (MSFT.O) is planning to announce layoffs in the near future in order to continue cost control. These layoffs will affect thousands of positions, including sales and consulting roles, as well as positions in the Xbox gaming department. It is reported that the scale of this layoff will be smaller than a similar one last year. Sources said that the extent of this layoff will be less than 2.5% of the company's total workforce of 220,000 employees. One source indicated that the company plans to announce the layoffs next week, but the specific timing may change. Some affected employees will immediately be offered new positions. In previous years, Microsoft has sometimes conducted layoffs around the start of the new fiscal year on July 1st. Last May, the company cut 6,000 positions, and then cut an additional 9,000 employees in July. These plans highlight Microsoft's efforts to increase investment in artificial intelligence while also attempting to control costs.
