United States Southern Command: Stands with the people of Venezuela.

The Southern Command of the United States issued a statement saying that General Kevin J. Gerard of the Southern Command met with acting Charg d'Affaires John M. Barrett and Vice President Delcy Rodrguez of Venezuela, along with other senior officials, to coordinate relief efforts in Venezuela. In response to a request from Venezuela and in coordination with the actions of the State Department, the Department of Defense is urgently deploying key forces to support local earthquake disaster relief operations and save lives.
