On June 16th, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met with the next candidate for United Nations Secretary-General, Secretary-General of UNCTAD and former Vice President of Costa Rica, Greinski, in Beijing. Greinski fully introduced his campaign platform, stating that the position of the United Nations is irreplaceable, but in need of reform that keeps up with the times, focusing more on peace, development, and the future, and playing its due role as the center of the international system. I firmly adhere to the One China principle, appreciate China's consistent support for multilateralism and the UN Charter, and am willing to work with China and the international community to strengthen the authority of the United Nations and create a common future for humanity. Wang Yi stated that your explanation reflects a firm belief in the cause of the United Nations, a tireless pursuit of peace for humanity, and a full understanding of the developing countries in the Global South. The United Nations is a century-old project that the international community has invested heavily in. For 55 years since the founding of New China, we have always been supporters and builders of the United Nations' cause. Last month, China assumed the rotating presidency of the Security Council, and I went to New York to preside over a high-level meeting of the Security Council, where all parties issued a unified voice to promote multilateralism, abide by the UN Charter, and revitalize the authority of the United Nations. The position of the UN Secretary-General is of great responsibility and international influence, and should uphold the Charter, have outstanding abilities, be fair and just, and fulfill their duties. As a responsible major country and a permanent member of the Security Council, China will participate in the election of the next Secretary-General with a constructive attitude and work with all parties to uphold, revitalize, and strengthen the United Nations.
