On June 9th, the Commissioner for Public Service in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, Yang Ho Pui-yan, announced at a press conference that the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, along with the Executive Council, discussed the salary adjustment for public servants at the meeting that day. They decided to propose a 2% across-the-board salary increase for all Hong Kong civil servants for the fiscal year 2026-2027, with retroactive effect from April 1, 2026. Yang Ho Pui-yan stated that the decision to propose this plan was made after a comprehensive consideration and balancing of all relevant factors under the established salary adjustment mechanism, including Hong Kong's economic situation, changes in living costs, government finances, the net salary trend index calculated from the salary trend survey, the demands of the civil service unions for salary adjustment, and the morale of civil servants.
