Economic Daily: Shared bikes should not prioritize charging fees over providing quality services.

Over the past decade, the price of shared bicycles has increased from 0.5 yuan per half hour to around 6 yuan per hour in some cities, and the prices of weekly and monthly cards have also risen. However, while prices have gone up, the user experience has been declining. During this year's May Day holiday, more than 70% of travel-related complaints received by the Shanghai Consumer Protection Commission were about shared bicycle billing issues, including charges for rides not taken and continuous billing for faulty bikes that couldn't be locked. Faced with profit pressures and competition, some platforms not only see price hikes as the most direct profit-making tool, but also often engage in questionable practices like covertly generating revenue through default selections, flooding the market with excessive bikes to squeeze out competitors, and neglecting service upgrades and compliance. This logic of making quick money may seem effective in the short term, but it actually undermines the industry's long-term credibility.
